Southern Tier Labor Chapter Founding Meeting

This meeting will be a vital reorganization of the Central Labor Council structure in our Southern Tier Counties. For years, two Central Labor Councils have met just 15 miles down the road from one another. The Steuben-Livingston Central Labor Council has met in Corning and the Chemung-Schuyler Central Labor Council has met in Elmira. 

Like many mostly-rural Central Labor Councils, it has been a challenge to maintain a strong body of delegates to hold the sort of programming necessary to have a strong impact on the region. The reorganization that will be proposed at this meeting will serve as an opportunity to unify the efforts of these Central Labor Councils and to strengthen the organized body of Labor in the Southern Tier. 

On July 17th, with the guidance of leadership from these two Central Labor Councils and at the discretion of delegates and affiliated organizations in the region, the Area Labor Federation Executive Board voted to approve the creation of a Southern Tier Labor Chapter that would unite Chemung, Livingston, Schuyler and Steuben unions. The meeting on September 18th will serve as the founding meeting of that body, if the delegates present so choose. 

We hope that delegates from every union in these four counties will be present to help create this new, united and more powerful Labor organization in the Southern Tier. This moment will serve to re-energize grassroots unionist activity and leadership. Please register delegates in advance of the meeting so that we can properly prepare for their attendance.
