TSA Workers and AFGE Will Not Stand Alone

At the monthly executive board meeting on 3/13, the Rochester Labor Council unanimously passed this resolution.

Whereas, the Rochester Labor Council, AFL-CIO believes firmly in the rights of all workers, public and private, to engage in collective bargaining through their unions; and

Whereas, it is also our belief that the rights of working people to unionization and collective bargaining are vital aspects of a functionally democratic society; and

Whereas, the ratification of a collective bargaining agreement between workers and their employers is a contract between parties and cannot terminated at the whim of employers, even when those employers are the Federal Government; and

Whereas, the Transportation Security Administration has employed 47,000 workers that ensure the safety of millions of families traveling across our nation everyday; and

Whereas, the Trump administration and Department of Homeland Security announcement to cancel the collective bargaining agreement and collective bargaining rights of those 47,000 workers is an attack on all workers, setting a standard that should alarm every unionist and worker in the nation; and

Whereas, this act is just another part of a systemic attack on the rights and standards of the Federal Workers, union and non-union; and

Whereas, we will not standby while the Trump administration and their billionaire friends drastically overuse the power of the Executive Office to scapegoat and attack Federal workers and their unions; and

Whereas, the decision to remove collective bargaining rights from TSA employees is a blatant act of vindictiveness against the American Federation of Government Employees for filing lawsuits in defense of their many members that have been arbitrarily fired by the unlawfully empowered Department of Government Efficiency; and

Whereas, solidarity and collective actions between unions and across industries has the power to ensure the rights of all working people in our nation;
Therefore, now be it resolved that the Rochester Labor Council, AFL-CIO stands firmly in opposition to the actions of both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Government Efficiency to take away the basic rights of Federal Workers; and

Therefore, be it finally resolved that the Rochester Labor Council, AFL-CIO stand ready to take all actions in solidarity with Federal Workers and will encourage our members to participate in actions called by the American Federation of Government Employees and the Federal Unionist Network.
